Men's Basketball Loses to York

Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team fell on the road to York College in a conference match-up in Queens Wednesday night. The Bloodhounds lost to the Cardinals 79-65.
 
With the loss, John Jay is now 8-9 (1-4 CUNYAC) this season, while York improves to 6-11 (2-2 CUNYAC).
 
The Bloodhounds were paced by Jerome Alexander with 23 points to lead four John Jay players in double figures. Swindon Charles added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Kris Owens had 13 points. Isaiah Holman chipped in with 11 points.
 
York was led by William Holley with 19 points.
 
The host Cardinals dominated the inside game, outscoring John Jay 40-12 on points in the paint, and York held a 40-26 rebounding edge. York shot 50 percent from the field (30-for-60), while the Bloodhounds connected on 39.6 percent (19-for-48).
 
The game was close for most of the first half. But York, up 25-23 with just over four minutes to go, outscored the Bloodhounds 8-0 over the final four minutes to take their biggest lead of the first half as the Cardinals led 33-23 at the intermission.
 
York held the lead the entire second half. The Cardinals opened the final stanza on a 4-0 run to complete a 12-0 overall run, including the 8-0 spurt to close out the first half.
 
Down 39-25 with 17:33 remaining, the Bloodhounds rallied off an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to six as John Jay trailed 39-33 with just under sixteen minutes remaining.
 
But York countered the run and outscored John Jay 8-2 after that to go back up by double digits at 47-35 with fourteen minutes left.
 
John Jay did not go away, and after falling behind by as much as fourteen, the Bloodhounds made another run and pulled to within three. Down 61-47, John Jay went on an 11-0 run to make the score 61-58 with 7:48 to go.
 
But York then countered with a 14-0 run to take its biggest lead of the night as the Cardinals led 75-58 with just over three minutes remaining.
 
York then managed a double-digit lead the rest of the way en route to the win.
