Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated on the road as the Bloodhounds fell to defending conference regular season champion College of Staten Island, 104-84, on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, John Jay falls to 8-10 (1-5 CUNYAC) this season, while CSI improves to 14-4 (6-0 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds got a solid performance from
Jerome Alexander with 28 points, while
Isaiah Holman knocked in a season-high 25 and grabbed eight rebounds.
Kris Owens added 11 points and six rebounds.
The host Dolphins were led by Jordan Young with a huge game of 31 points and 20 rebounds. Fellow teammate Javon Cox added a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds.
CSI led 48-35 at halftime before outscoring the Bloodhounds 56-49 in the second stanza. The Dolphins dominated the interior and held a 60-32 advantage on points in the paint and a 51-30 advantage in rebounding.
The Dolphins led from start to finish. They opened the game on a 25-8 run and led by as much as 19 in the first half before going into halftime up 13.
The Bloodhounds pulled to within as little as nine early in the second half and John Jay trailed 62-53 with 13:16 to go. But CSI used a 25-9 spurt to take a 25-point lead as the Dolphins led 87-62 with just over six minutes to go.
CSI led by twenty-plus points the rest of the way before winning by that margin.
