Men’s Basketball Loses Home Conference Game to Brooklyn

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost a home contest on Wednesday as the Bloodhounds lost to conference foe Brooklyn College, 93-73, at the Doghouse.
 
The loss drops the Bloodhounds to 8-11 (1-7 CUNYAC), while Brooklyn improves to 11-6 (4-3 CUNYAC).
 
John Jay had four players score in double figures and was led by Isaiah Holman with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. Fellow teammate Jerome Alexander added 20 points to up his John Jay career total to 973. He now needs just 27 points to become the twelfth player in Bloodhound men's basketball history to eclipse 1,000 in a John Jay uniform. Swindon Charles and Jamar Harry had 10 points each in the loss. Charles had a double-double as he had a game-high 18 rebounds in the game.
 
Brooklyn was led by Tyshawn Russell with 31 points, while Kavon Baker added 18. Steven Grant came off the bench and had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
 
In what was a high scoring first half, the visiting Bulldogs took a close game and turned it into a runaway midway through the opening stanza. Up 15-14, Brooklyn scampered off on a 20-0 run to take control of the contest as the Bulldogs led 35-14 with 7:18 to go. Eleven of the points were scored by Russell during the spurt as he went 4-for-4 during that span.
 
Brooklyn maintained the large lead and led by as much as 25 later in the first half. The Bulldogs led 44-19 with 3:15 to go before going into halftime up 52-30.
 
The Bulldogs managed a double-digit lead the entire second half.
 
Several times, John Jay looked poised to make a run to get back into the game. But each time, Brooklyn had an answer. The Bloodhounds pulled to within 13 with 7:47 to go and were down 72-59. John Jay had several chances to narrow the deficit more, but failed to capitalize. While up 72-59, Brooklyn missed a field goal attempt, committed a foul and committed a turnover. Meanwhile John Jay missed a pair of free throws and committed a turnover to stay behind by thirteen
 
But Brooklyn proceeded to connect on a pair of free throws, then exposed a vulnerable defensive set to quickly go back up by seventeen as the Bulldogs led 76-59 with 6:25 to go.
 
John Jay then fired back with a 6-1 spurt to pull to within a dozen and the Bloodhounds were down 77-65 with 4:50 to go.
 
But that was as close as John Jay got. Brooklyn answered the call with a 7-0 run to go back up by nineteen, and the Bulldogs led 84-65 with three minutes left to virtually put the game away.
