Men’s Basketball Struck by Lehman Lightning

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost a home contest on Friday evening to Lehman College, 87-72 on Friday evening.
 
The loss knocks John Jay's record to 7-7 this season and 0-3 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. Lehman improves to 7-7 and is now 3-0 in CUNYAC.
 
The Bloodhounds were led by Jerome Alexander with 27 points, while Isaiah Holman added 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jamar Harry had 12 rebounds and four assists in the contest.
 
Lehman had three players score at least 20 points and had two team members with double-doubles. George Himmons led the Lightning with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Mathias Raggiotto had 21 points and 14 rebounds. Phil Duncan came off the bench and added 20 points and six assists, while Patryk Odedina had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The game was close though most of the first half. But the visiting Lightning struck quickly and took control over the final five minutes of the opening stanza to take a big lead. Up 23-22 with just over five minutes remaining, Lehman used a 17-4 run to take a 40-26 late in the first half, before going into halftime up 40-28.
 
The Lightning held a double-digit lead most of the second half en route to the victory.
 
The Bloodhounds managed to pull to within eight points of the lead and were down 67-59 with just under seven minutes to play.
 
But Lehman answered the call and moments later took a 16 point advantage and were ahead 78-62 with 4:21 remaining.
 
John Jay would get as close as nine points of the lead in the closing moments, but never closer.
 
The Lightning held a big advantage in rebounding, outrebounding the Bloodhounds 49-32 overall, including 19-9 on the offensive end. Lehman outscored the Bloodhounds 21-6 on second chance points.
 
John Jay returns to action on Monday January 9 at New Jersey City University at 7 p.m.
