New Rochelle, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team finished up its 2011-12 regular and conference season with a win on Saturday evening as the Bloodhounds beat Lehman College 65-58 at Monroe Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Bloodhounds end their 2011-12 regular season at 12-13 overall, the Bloodhounds' best overall regular season record since the 2003-04 season. John Jay also ends the conference regular season with a 4-8 record. The Bloodhounds will be the No. 8 seed for the 2011-12 CUNYAC / Con Edison men's basketball championship and will play at No. 1 College of Staten Island on Saturday, February 18 at a time to be announced.
In Saturday's win, John Jay were led by
Jerome Alexander with 25 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile
Swindon Charles and
Jamar Harry contributed double-doubles. Charles had 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Harry had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Joseph Padell had four assists in 13 minutes off the bench.
Lehman was led by Mathias Raggiotto with 18 points and nine rebounds.
It was a close game in the first half. Lehman never trailed in the opening stanza, but never led by more than seven. The Lightning led by four at halftime and was up 30-26.
In the second half, Lehman led by as much as nine. The Lightning went up 39-30 with 17:46 to go.
But John Jay slithered into the lead, and took its first lead of the night with 12:41 to go on a continuation three point play by Alexander.
Lehman retook the lead on the next possession. But the Bloodhounds took the lead for good on a jumper by Charles with 12:03 to go. The jumper ignited a 9-2 run that put the Bloodhounds ahead 54-48 with 7:58 to play.
The Lightning managed to pull to within three on two occasions, but never closer as the Bloodhounds picked up the win to avenge a loss to the Lightning earlier in the season.
