Men's Basketball Rolls Past CCNY on Senior Day

New York, N.Y.— It was senior day at the Doghouse on Saturday and the Bloodhounds made the most of their senior day. One senior, Justin Allleyne, made the most of his final home game, netting 18 points, dishing out 10 assists and committing no turnovers, helping the Bloodhounds to a route over CCNY 95-77.
 
Alleyne's effort was just one of many great performances in John Jay's dominating win. Jerome Alexander scored a team-high 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists, while Jamar Harry had 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Isaiah Holman had 14 points, while Swindon Charles cleaned up the glass with 17 rebounds.
 
CCNY was led by Terence Johnston with 25 points, while Israel Vickers had 10 points and seven assists.
 
The contest started out looking like it was going to be a forty minute battle to the end. The first fourteen minutes saw 11 lead changes and one tie.
 
The visiting Beavers had a 25-24 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. But Alleyne, who was 4-for-5 from three point range, knocked down a triple with 5:56 to go to ignite a 19-3 run to close out the first half, as the once close game, was rapidly broken open. John Jay led 44-28 at the half.
 
The Bloodhounds opened the second half scoring the first six points to complete the spurt as John Jay's overall run was 25-3.
 
The big run gave the Bloodhounds complete control of the contest. John Jay led by double digits the rest of the way.
 
A mild run by CCNY during the middle stages of the second half pulled the Beavers to within 12. John Jay was up 60-48 with 10:38 to go.
 
But the Bloodhounds answered with a 12-5 spurt to go up 72-53 with 6:33 to play as John Jay coasted the rest of the way.
 
The Bloodhounds led by as much as 26 in the second half before the final buzzer sounded.
 
The win by John Jay completes a season sweep of their North Division rivals.
 
The Bloodhounds shot an electrifying 57.8 percent (37-for-64) from the field, including 55.6 percent (5-for-9) from the three point line.
 
The Bloodhounds outrebounded the Beavers 51-25 helping John Jay to an 18-18 tie with CCNY on second chance points despite shooting nearly 20 percent better from the floor than the Beavers. CCNY connected on 41.7 percent (30-for-72) from the floor.
 
John Jay is back in action on Thursday, February 9 at Baruch College at 7:30 p.m.
