Women's Swimming Defeats Lehman College

The women's swimming team defeated conference opponent Lehman College, 112-99, on Tuesday evening in the Bronx. With the win, the team now has a two-game win streak and improves its record to 3-1 (1-1 in CUNYAC). The Lightning fall to 1-1-1 overall (0-1 in CUNYAC).

The Bloodhounds took home first place in the first event, 200 Yard Medley Relay, as sophomore Kaylie Bruce, freshman Veronika Savina, sophomore Victoria Hsieh, and senior Vanessa Toro-Plaza, finished with a time of 2:12.48.

Freshman Alyssa DeVito then touched first in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:49.71) and Toro-Plaza followed placing first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.94.

Senior Nathalie Cuellar led the way in the 200 Yard IM, finishing in 2:52.72. DeVito then took her 2nd first-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:22.29.

In the 10th event, Devito and Hsieh finished first and second in the 500 yard freestyle with times of 6:43.76 and 6:59.66, respectively. Savina won the 100 yard freestyle as the New Rochelle native touched first in 1:20.02.

"Tonight was a tough battle but a successful one," head coach Jessica Whitley said. "The team knew how important it was for every member to score. They made sure they kept their confidence and encouraged each other to do their best. DeVito had three individual wins and Toro-Plaza had a victory in the 50 Free, posting her career best time."

The Bloodhounds return to the pool on Thursday, November 14, as they travel to Brooklyn College for a meet at 6 p.m.

"With Brooklyn tomorrow, the team is aware it will be another close meet. With confidence, motivation and the drive to win, the team will do their best to secure the win," said Whitley.
