The men's basketball team lost to New Jersey City University, 70-59, on Tuesday evening in New Jersey. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-2 (0-0 in CUNYAC) on the season while the Gothic Knights improve to 3-0 overall.Â
NJCU took an early lead as they scored the first 15 points of the game. John Jay cut the lead to 10 midway through the first half but the Gothic Knights responded with a run, giving them a 26-12 lead. Going into the second half, the Bloodhounds trailed 33-23.Â
Early on in the second half, both teams exchanged baskets. Five minutes into the half, NJCU led by 13. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, John Jay cut the lead to eight points. However, NJCU went on a run and would not look back as the Gothic Knights extended their undefeated streak.
Junior
Korede Griffith led the Bloodhounds with 18 points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Senior
Darryl Dennis added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.Â
Junior
Kris Owens recorded a team-high nine rebounds, to go along with two steals and a block. Junior
Anthony Saldarriaga came off the bench and picked up nine points.Â
Jourdan Roberson and Khalid Muhammad led the way for NJCU with 14 and 13 points, respectively.Â
"We were never able to overcome the big lead," head coach
Otis Fenn said. "We fought hard but need to work on getting off to a better start."
The Bloodhounds head home for Homecoming as well their first home game of the 2013-2014 season. The game will be on Tuesday, November 26, at the Doghouse. It is scheduled to start after the women's game at 8:15 p.m.Â
