Box Score Senior Jamecia Forsythe recorded 12 points and eclipsed 1,000 career points as the women's basketball team defeated conference opponent City College, 86-77, on Homecoming on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse.

She became the 4th Bloodhound in program history and 77th player in CUNYAC to reach 1,000 points.

"I am happy about it," Forsythe said. "I am thankful for my family, coaches, teammates, and friends who have been pushing me ever since I got to John Jay."

With the win, the Bloodhounds have won back-to-back games and improve to 2-1 (1-0 in CUNYAC) while the Beavers fall to 0-4 (0-1 in CUNYAC).

Junior Tyana Hale opened up the scoring for the Bloodhounds as she scored a layup five seconds into the contest. The Beavers followed on a 6-0 run to give them an early 6-2 lead. The Bloodhounds tied the game up at eight when Forsythe recorded her first two points of the game on a jumper. Midway through the first half, junior Katelyn Fitzgerald hit a jumper to put the Bloodhounds up by six.

John Jay went on a 17-0 run, capped off by two successful free-throws from junior Aneska Tejada. The Beavers closed out the half cutting the lead from 19 to 9. The Bloodhounds led at half, 42-33.

Fitzgerald recorded the first three points of the second half, after receiving a pass from sophomore Terri Chu. At 15:29, Forsythe, who needed two more points to reach 1,000, hit a jumper and coach Diane Ramirez called a timeout. The crowd went crazy and the forward went to center court as she received a standing ovation.

"I am very excited that Jamecia reached the 1,000 point milestone," sixth-year head coach Ramirez said. "I am always glad when she gets a much deserved ovation."

The Bloodhounds led for much of the second half by double digits until CCNY went on a 23-10 run to cut the lead to four with under five minutes left to play. However, John Jay responded taking the next 11 out of 15 points, giving them an 82-71 lead.

It was only fitting for Forsythe to record the last two points of the game, the 1,005th and 1,006th of her career, to give the Bloodhounds an 86-77 win.

"Glad to get a conference win in front of our great crowd," Ramirez. "Although our offense played good, our offense made too many mistakes."

Forsythe finished the game recording a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tejada came off the bench and had a team-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals. Fitzgerald and junior Amanda Jimenez each registered 12 points and Chu finished with a game-high nine rebounds. Hale registered 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

The Beavers had three players in double-digits.

"I can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out," Forsythe added. "Our main focus is on winning the CUNYAC Championship."

The Bloodhounds will head to Rochester, NY this weekend for the St. John Fisher Tournament.
