Men's Basketball Falls to Yeshiva University to Close Out 2013

The men's basketball team was defeated by Yeshiva University, 69-57, on Saturday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-6 overall (2-2 in CUNYAC) while the Maccabees improve to 4-7 on the season. 

In the first eight minutes of the first half, there were four lead changes as each team exchanged buckets. Eventually, John Jay took the lead and increased it to four on a three-pointer by senior Darryl Dennis. With just under six minutes remaining, junior Korede Griffith nailed a three to give the Bloodhounds a 21-13 lead. Yeshiva followed on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to one. Heading into halftime, John Jay led 28-25. 

Junior Darell Robinson led off the second half making a layup to extend the lead to five. However, the Maccabees tied the game at 34 apiece with 17:15 left to go. In the next three minutes of play, Yeshiva had two leads but the Bloodhounds rebounded to tie it up. The Maccabees followed on a 9-0 run, which would be the turning point of the game. Yeshiva outscored John Jay in the second half 44-29 to take the non-conference game. 

Griffith finished with a game-high three steals and team-high 13 points to go along with five rebounds and one assist. Robinson recorded 11 points and a game-high six assists. Sophomore Kendal Jordan had a team-high six rebounds and nine points off the bench and junior Kris Owens added 10 points. Senior Oshea Alexander registered a game-high four blocks. 

Yeshiva was led by Yisrael Feld, who recorded 24 points and four assists. Benjy Ritholtz added 19 points and seven rebounds. 

"Tonight was a tough loss," head coach Otis Fenn said. "We did not come out as strong in the second half as we did in the first."

After the New Year, the Bloodhounds will head to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the Moravian tournament on January 4th and 5th.
