NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated at home by York College Saturday afternoon losing to the Cardinals 70-63.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Isaiah Holman with 14 points, while
Korede Griffith and
Michael Howard chipped in with 12.
Jamar Harry added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. He also provided six assists in the contest.
York College was led by Shamir Wilkinson with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks. Tony Vails added 19 for the Cardinals, who finished off a season sweep of the Bloodhounds (York beat John Jay 82-81 on Jan. 3).
For the first thirty-two plus minutes, John Jay either had the lead or the score was tied. York, who trailed by as much as 14 in the first half, took its first lead with 8:27 remaining in the second half, while in the midst of an 11-0 York run that saw the Cardinals go from trailing 52-47 to leading 58-52.
York never trailed again in the contest. The Cardinals led by as much as 10 in the closing seconds before snapping John Jay's two game winning streak.
York shot 60.9 percent in the second half (14-for-23), after a dismal first half that saw the Cardinals shoot 26 percent (6-for-23) from the field. York went to the free throw line 35 times, while making 26, while the Bloodhounds went 8-for-12 from the charity stripe.
John Jay is back in action on Monday for a game at Medgar Evers College at 8 p.m.
