NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay men's volleyball team was defeated by defending conference champion Hunter College losing 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening.
John Jay is now 1-7 (0-6 CUNYAC) this season, while Hunter improves to 6-7 (6-1 CUNYAC).
John Jay was led by
Yevgeniy Remennik with four kills, four digs, a service ace and a block assist, while
Jack Palleschi and
Oshea Alexander had three kills each.
Korede Griffith had two kills and four digs, while
Ernesto Boock had a team-high three service aces.
Hunter was led by Stanley Martinez with 12 kills (one error) on 17 attack attempts for a .647 hitting percentage, to go along with 17 assists, five digs and three service aces. Nino Hot added 10 kills, three service aces and three digs for the Hawks.
Hunter collected 40 team kills (16 errors) on 77 attacks for a .312 attack percentage. The Hawks opened the match scoring the first eight points to set the pace, en route to leading the first set from start to finish.
The Bloodhounds' first lead of the night came when they scored the first two points of the second set as John Jay was ahead 2-0. John Jay led 4-1 moments later, before Hunter scored on 11 of the next 13 services to lead 12-6 en route to the win.
In the third set, the match was tied at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, and 4-4, before the Hawks outscored John Jay 8-3 to take a 12-7 advantage midway through. With Hunter up 15-9, the Hawks extended their lead with a 7-0 rally to go up 22-9 before winning.
John Jay is back in action on Tue. Mar. 12 for a home match against Sarah Lawrence College at 7 p.m.
