Women's Swimming Falls in Final Home Meet of 13-14 Season

The women's swim team lost to Hunter College, 58-37, on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse. With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 4-4 overall (2-4 in CUNYAC) while the Hawks improve to 5-4 (4-1 in CUNYAC). The Bloodhounds won three out of four meets at home for the season. 

"I am pleased with yesterday's swim meet," head coach Jessica Whitley said. "Despite the loss, the swim team posted many personal best times."

Hunter got off to an early lead after taking the first event, 200 medley relay. The Bloodhounds responded by finishing in first and second in the second event, 1000 freestyle. Freshman Alyssa DeVito placed first with a time of 13:37.37 and Nathalie Cuellar placed second with a time of 14:27.73. 

Two events later, freshman Veronika Savina led the way in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28:50. In the seventh event, DeVito finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:22.14. 

In the ninth event, Cuellar placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:18.63. The next event featured Victoria Hsieh finishing in first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 7:02.20. In the last individual race, Savina placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:20.00. 

The Bloodhounds will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico on this Friday, January 17 for their annual winter training trip. The team will be training for five days and several members of the team will be keeping blogs. "Heading to Puerto Rico this week will only advance the teams preparation for championships," Whitley added. "Our team goal is to swim each and every practice as if its the most important practice of year. The team is extremly excited and appreciates this opportunity. This trip will help the athletes excel in the sport of swimming. It will improve stroke technique, endurance, and get them into prime shape for Championships."
