The women's basketball team lost to the College of Staten Island, 71-48, on Wednesday evening at CSI's Sports and Recreational Center. The Bloodhounds drop to 5-10 (3-5 in CUNYAC) on the season while the Dolphins improve to 12-3 (7-0 in CUNYAC).Â

Amanda Jimenez started the scoring with a layup forty seconds into the game. The Dolphins tied it before the Bloodhounds went on a 8-0 run, capped off by a layup by senior
Jamecia Forsythe. CSI cut the lead to three with 14:24 remaining in the half.

Sherrice Marshall nailed a jump shot and sophomore
Terri Chu made a three-pointer to put the Bloodhounds up 17-9. The Dolphins went on a 5-0 run and eventually tied the game at 20 apiece with just under seven minutes left in the half. Staten Island ended the half on a 8-3 run to lead 33-27.
Early on in the second half, the Dolphins increased the lead to eight but a free-throw by junior
Tyana Hale and a jumper by freshman
Josephine Diaz cut the deficit to five.Â
A few minutes later, CSI went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-33 lead. The Bloodhounds chipped away but the Dolphins would take the conference game, 71-48.Â
Forsythe recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 points (going 8-for-10 from the field) and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks, two steals, and two assists. Jimenez finished three points shy of a double-double as she recorded 11 rebounds and seven points. Chu registered eight points and Hale and sophomore
Amber Villegas added three assists each.Â
Staten Island's Melanie Johnson led the way with a game-high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocks. Katelyn Hepworth finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.Â
"Tonight was a tough game," head coach
Diane Ramirez said. "Staten Island is a very talented team and they showed that tonight."
The Bloodhounds will head to Rutgers-Camden on Monday, January 20 for a non-conference game at 2:00pm.Â
