The men's basketball team defeated the City College of New York (CCNY), 58-52, on Wednesday evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Bloodhounds take the season series from the Beavers, 2-0, and improve to 7-10 and 5-4 in CUNYAC. The Beavers drop to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in CUNYAC.

Junior Kris Owens led the way in the first half with 12 points as the Bloodhounds led 27-26. John Jay went 10-for-30 from the field while CCNY was 12-for-32. Anthony Lewis was the Beavers' leading scorer with 12 points.

Just like the first meeting at the Doghouse, the first nine minutes of the second half featured 10 lead changes. Up by one, the Bloodhounds hit two consecutive shots to increase the visitors lead to five. However, CCNY fought back cutting the lead back down to one with just under four minutes remaining.

The Bloodhounds then went on a 7-0 run, capped off by four consecutive free-throws by junior Anthony Saldarriaga. John Jay would go on to take the conference victory by a score of 58-52.

Owens finished with a team-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Junior Korede Griffith fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Saldarriaga dished out a game-high eight assists and sophomore Carl Ulysse recorded eight points, four rebounds, two steals, and one block off the bench.

CCNY's Lewis recorded a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals. Brandon Reeves registered 14 points off the bench and Jordan Ortega dished out a team-high four assists.

"Today's game was very similar to our last one with the Beavers," head coach Otis Fenn. "Fortunately, we were able to come out on top once again."

The Bloodhounds will return to the Doghouse on Friday, January 24 for a conference game against the Baruch Bearcats at 7:00pm.
