New York, NY – The women's swimming team picked up a win against conference opponent York College, 64-19, on Tuesday evening at the John Jay Pool. With the win, the Bloodhounds are now 4-3 (2-3 in CUNYAC) and the Cardinals fall to 0-6 (0-4 in CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds came in first place in all but three events. They took home first place in the first event, 200 Yard Medley, as senior
Victoria Hsieh, freshman
Veronika Savina, sophomore
Diana Rodriguez and senior
Jenell Stott-Hodge finished with a time of 2:24.87.
Senior
Nathalie Cuellar led the way placing first in two events, the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:27.39 and the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:36.12. Fellow senior
Laura Galeano placed first in the 200 Yard IM, with a time of 3:13.28.
Freshman
Alyssa DeVito picked up first place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:08.13 and also in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:43.22.
John Jay also honored six seniors,
Vanessa Toro-Plaza,
Danielle Conigliaro, Galeano, Stott-Hodge, Cuellar and Hsieh, as this will be their final season swimming for the Bloodhounds.
"Tonight we had a great win at the senior meet where we honored six dedicated seniors," head coach
Jessica Whitley said. "It was a night for them to realize they played a major part in John Jay Athletics. It was their night to take pride in knowing it was their efforts that really helped turn our program around and back into the winning ways. I hope they continue to use what they learned and apply it in the future. These six individuals will be missed dearly."
The Bloodhounds have one more home meet on Tuesday, January 14, against Hunter College at 7pm before the team heads to San Juan, Puerto Rico for its annual winter training trip.
