Men's Soccer Falls to College of Staten Island

The men's soccer team lost to the College of Staten Island, 3-1, on Monday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 5-9 on the season and 4-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins improve to 8-8-1 overall and 5-1 in CUNYAC.

Much of the first half consisted of even play with both teams getting scoring changes. The Bloodhounds had a great scoring change midway through the half. Senior Graysen Carlson was awarded a free kick right outside the box. The California native blasted a shot off the post to keep the score tied at zero. Senior goalkeeper Vitecha Kochaon kept the Dolphins off the scoreboard.

However in the 42nd minute, a Bloodhound defender inadvertently shot the ball in John Jay's net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Dolphins outshot the Bloodhounds 12-10 in the half. Kochaon made nine saves.

Staten Island tacked on their second goal of the game fifteen minutes into the second half. John Jay finally got on the scoreboard in the 72nd minute. A Bloodhound was tripped in the box and Junior Justin Osorio was awarded a penalty shot. He connected for his second penalty shot goal of the season and cut the deficit to one. However two minutes later, a Dolphin connected on a penalty kick to give the guests a 3-1 lead.

Seniors Korede Griffith and Carlson and sophomore Alexis Bustillo each recorded three shots in the contest. Kochaon finished the game with a game-high 15 saves.

The Bloodhounds travel to City College (CCNY) on Saturday, October 18, for a conference match at 9:30am.
