The women's soccer team defeated York College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 3-12 on the season and 2-3 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals fall to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in CUNYAC.
The Bloodhounds opened the scoring in the ninth minute when freshman
Zola Campbell buried her second goal of the season. John Jay kept pouring on the shots but York's goalkeeper made 12 saves in the half. John Jay outshot the Cardinals 22-1 in the first half.
In the 52nd minute of play, freshman
Faith Howell received a pass from Campbell and shot it past the goalkeeper to give the Bloodhounds a 2-0 lead. This was Howell's first collegiate goal. Sixteen minutes later, junior
Katelyn Davis blasted a shot to register her first goal of the season and increased John Jay's lead to three. Howell added her second goal of the game with ten minutes left to give the Bloodhounds a 4-0 conference win.
John Jay outshot York 38-2 in the match. Campbell finished the game recording one goal, two assists, and four shots. Sophomore
Jessica Jean had a game-high eight shots and one assist. Junior
Andrea Antoni picked up the win in net and made two saves.
The Bloodhounds play a pivotal match on Wednesday, October 22 against Lehman College at 5:00pm. John Jay must win to keep its playoff chances alive.
