The John Jay rifle team fired a 1972 in small bore and a 2203 in air rifle at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) on Saturday. The Bloodhounds lost to Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in both small bore and air rifle. VMI shot a 2217 in small bore and a 2291 in air rifle.

Despite the tough loss, the Bloodhounds fired the best first match of the season in air rifle in many years. Sophomore Angelica DeAraujo fired a 555 in air rifle, which was a personal best and team high score. Following DeAraujo, teammate Connie Villon fired a 554, while Ronald Kopec fired a 550.

In small bore, Kopec, who earned a spot on the MAC All-Rookie Team last year, fired a team high score of 532, while David Vegvari followed, firing a 506. Elisa Dunn was the third highest scorer for the Bloodhounds in small bore, firing a 488.

The Bloodhounds are on the road again this Saturday, October 11th as they travel to Akron, Ohio to take on the University of Akron.
