The women's basketball team lost to NJCU, 75-44, in the season opener on Wednesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds start the season 0-1 while the Gothic Knights improve to 3-0.
NJCU got off to an early lead after scoring the first 10 points of the game. With the Bloodhounds down 14-6, junior
Aneska Tejada made a layup to cut the deficit to six. However, the Gothic Knights went on a 8-0 run to increase their lead to 24-10. NJCU ended the half on a 22-6 run to give the guests a 46-16 lead heading into halftime.
John Jay started the second half scoring seven straight points, capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore
Josephine Diaz. The rest of the half consisted of both teams exchanging baskets. NJCU would go on to win their third straight game to open the season.
In her John Jay debut, junior transfer
Brianna Cunningham fell one rebound shy of a double-double. The Rockville Centre, NY native scored 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting to go along with a team-high nine rebounds and a game-high five blocks. Senior
Amanda Jimenez registered six points, four rebounds, and one steal. Diaz and junior
Terri Chu recorded five points and two assists each.
The Bloodhounds will travel to Grantham, PA for the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic Tournament. John Jay will face Ithaca College on Friday at 2pm.
