The women's volleyball team lost to Baruch College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-11), on Tuesday evening at the ARC Arena. The Bloodhounds end the season with an 11-14 overall record and 3-5 CUNY Athletic Conference record. The Bearcats improve to 14-17 on the season.
Early on in the first set, the Bloodhounds and Bearcats exchanged points as the score was tied at seven. Baruch then went on a 12-3 run to give them a 19-10 lead. John Jay rallied to record three straight points but the hosts took the first set, 25-18.
In the second set, the Bearcats got off to an early 8-3 lead. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to two but Baruch recorded eight of the next nine points to lead 15-7. Although John Jay made a late comeback, the Bearcats closed out the second half, 25-18.
Much like the first set, the final set began with both teams exchanging points. With the score tied at 6-6, the Bloodhounds went on a 4-0 run to lead 10-6. However, Baruch responded with a 9-0 run of their own to give the home team a 15-10 lead. The Bearcats closed out the set and match recording the final 10 points.
Senior
Katherine Bonilla registered a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs. Freshman
Rachel Eng led the Bloodhounds with five kills and 13 digs. Junior
Latanya Buckham recorded a team-high three service aces to go along with four kills and eight digs. Junior
Perla Pozo added a team-high 15 digs.
This match turned out to be the final one of
Katherine Bonilla,
Ashley Diaz,
Hakimah Lovell-McFee, and
Amanda Moreno's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
