The women's basketball team fell to the College of Staten Island, 69-59, on Thursday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC. The Dolphins improve to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.
Freshman
Victoria Royal fell one rebound shy of her first career double-double. The Bronx native finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and one block. Sophomore
Brianna Cunningham recorded her fifth double-double of the season and fourth in a row with a game-high 22 points, game-high 15 rebounds, and two blocks. Junior
Terri Chu registered 17 points, two assists, and one steal. Junior
Amber Villegas picked up seven boards, a team-high four assists, one block, and one steal. Senior
Amanda Jimenez had 10 rebounds, including five offensive, and a team-high three steals.
The Dolphins got off to an early 9-2 lead but a three-pointer by Chu cut the deficit to four. CSI then recorded the next four points and led 13-5 with 13:28 remaining in the half. Three minutes later with John Jay down by nine, the Bloodhounds went on a 7-0 run to cut the Dolphin lead to 18-16. CSI responded with a 7-0 run of their own to increase the lead to nine.
Royal then scored the next five points and two successful free-throws by Villegas and one by Diaz gave the Dolphins a one-point lead. CSI closed out the first half on a 12-2 run to lead 37-26.
Five minutes into the second half, the Dolphins increased their lead to 16. Cunningham then made two shots and Chu made a jumper to cut the lead back down to 10. However, the Bloodhounds were unable to make a comeback and fell 69-59.
The Bloodhounds close out their 2014 schedule with an away game at Ramapo College on Sunday, December 14, at 2pm. They then open the 2015 schedule with a home game against Hunter College on January 2nd.
