The women's basketball team lost to Lehman College, 63-58, on Friday evening in Bronx, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 9-15 on the season and 6-9 in CUNYAC. The Lightning improve to 15-9 overall and 9-6 in the conference.
The Bloodhounds got off to an early 2-0 lead on a layup by junior
Tyana Hale. Thirty seconds later, Lehman took the lead on a three-pointer. The first five minutes of the contest did not see either team leading by more than four.
With 13:37 left in the first half, Lehman had a 15-9 lead but the Bloodhounds responded on a 9-0 run to take a three-point lead. With just over six minutes remaining in the half, the Lightning tied the game at 22 apiece. Lehman ended the half scoring eight straight points, giving them a 37-26 lead heading into halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half, John Jay cut the deficit to one. The Bloodhounds took their first lead in the second half, 46-45, on a jumper by junior
Aneska Tejada. With seven minutes left in the contest, John Jay increased its lead to five.
However, the Lightning tied the game two minutes later at 52 apiece. The turning point of the game was Lehman's response by going on a 9-0 run late in the game to seal the conference victory by a score of 63-58.
Hale led all scorers with 21 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Senior
Jamecia Forsythe picked up her seventh straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore
Amber Villegas dished out a game-high seven assists and Tejada and sophomore
Tamara Jones added a block each.
Lightning's Shalaya Nieves led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Jennifer Navarro scored 16 points and Amely Del Rosario recorded a game-high seven steals.
The Bloodhounds are back in action on Tuesday, February 18, when they head to Brooklyn College for their final game at 5pm.
