The #6 women's basketball team lost to the #3 seeded Brooklyn Bulldogs, 54-36, on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds conclude their season with a 9-17 overall record and 7-9 CUNY Athletic Conference record.
Four seconds into the game, Junior
Tyana Hale recorded the first two points of the game on a layup. Brooklyn scored the next six points and led 6-2 but a jump shot by junior
Sherrice Marshall cut the lead to two. The Bulldogs then went on a 5-0 run to lead 11-4 with 14:46 remaining in the half.
Minutes later, Brooklyn increased its lead to 16 but the Bloodhounds ended the half on a 9-0 run with senior
Jamecia Forsythe recording the final four points. Heading into the second half, the home team led 26-19.
The Bulldogs scored the first four points of the second half to lead by 11. Sophomore
Terri Chu followed by converting on a three-point play to cut the deficit to eight.
However, the Bulldogs put together a 12-0 run with 12:52 left in the game. John Jay would not go down without a fight as the Bloodhounds registered the next eight points to trail 42-30.
Once again, Brooklyn responded with an 11-0 run to seal the victory for the three seed, 54-36.
Hale led all John Jay scorers with nine points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block. Forsythe registered seven points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Tamara Jones finished with a team-high 12 rebounds off the bench. Junior
Amanda Jimenez swiped a game-high four steals and sophomore Amber VIllegas added three assists.
Brooklyn's Nicole Francomano and Carissa Williams recorded 12 points each. Nacirema Mann picked up a game-high 16 rebounds and Megan Campbell finished with a game-high three blocks.
The Bulldogs advance to the semifinals where they will take on #2 Baruch Bearcats at Nat Holman Gymnasium (CCNY) on Wednesday, February 26.
This game turned out to be the final game of
Jamecia Forsythe,
Tyana Hale,
Ashley Lee, and
Sandy Requeno's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
