The men's basketball team fell to the College of Staten Island, 78-67, on Saturday evening at the Doghouse. As a result, the Bloodhounds drop to 8-13 on the season and 6-7 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins improve to 18-2 overall and remain undefeated in the conference.Â
The Bloodhounds got off to a hot start with junior
Kris Owens hitting a three-pointer to start off the game. Owens would go on to record the first 14 points for John Jay.
With the Bloodhounds leading 18-15 halfway through the first half, junior
Anthony Saldarriaga made a layup, senior
Darryl Dennis recorded a three-pointer, and sophomore
Kendal Jordan hit a jumper to increase the lead to 10. CSI trimmed the lead to six with 5:43 left in the half.Â

Jordan Wells then made two layups and Owens nailed a three to put John Jay up 36-26. Staten Island closed out the half on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 36-32 heading into the second half.Â

Korede Griffith led off the second half hitting two free-throws. Four minutes into the second half, the Dolphins tied the game at 38 apiece. CSI took the lead with 15:01 remaining and followed on an 11-0 run.Â
Joun Jay cut the lead to five after Owens recorded five straight points. However, the Dolphins responded on a 6-0 run to give them an 11-point lead. CSI took the game by a score of 78-67.Â
Owens led John Jay with a team-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Sophomore
Carl Ulysse picked up a team-high eight rebounds and Long and Dennis recorded eight points each. Saldarriaga registered a team-high three assists and Jordan added seven rebounds and two blocks off the bench.Â
CSi's Javon Cox led the way with 27 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, two assists, and one block. Jon Chadwick-Myers and Bloochy Magloire registered 16 points each and Frankie Schettino added four steals and four asssits.Â
The Bloodhounds will play a non-conference game on Tuesday, February 11 against St. Joseph's College at 7:30pm.Â
