The men's volleyball team suffered a tough defeat to Lehman College, 3-2 (14-25, 21-25, 25-15, 31-29, 15-9) on Thursday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 3-11 on the season and 1-8 in CUNYAC. The Lightning improve to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in the conference.Â
John Jay took the first set, 25-14 after taking the last four points. Lehman got off to an early lead in the second but the Bloodhounds went on a 7-0 run to lead, 10-6. Later in the set, John Jay was able to rally off two 3-0 runs and the Bloodhounds took the second set, 25-21.Â
The Lightning led the entire third set and ended the set by taking 10 of the last 14 points. The fourth set went back-and-forth with both teams exchanging points. With the Bloodhounds trailing 14-12, John Jay recorded four straight points to take a two-point lead. Later on, the guests would tie the game at 23 apiece. The Bloodhounds then had four match points but the Lightning held on to tie the score each time. They would eventually go on to take the set, 31-29.Â
In the fifth and deciding set, Lehman registered four of the first five points. The Lightning then fired off four straight points to give them an 8-2 lead. John Jay cut the deficit to four at 10-6. However, Lehman took the set and match, 15-9.
Two Bloodhounds finished with double-digit kills. Sophomore
Jack Palleschi recorded a team-high 16 kills and seven digs. Senior
Yevgeniy Remennik registered 10 kills, a game-high five service aces, and six digs. Sophomore
Nicholas Anderson dished out 36 assists to go along with four digs and three kills. Senior
Oshea Alexander picked up nine kills and two blocks. Sophomore
Kendal Jordan also had two blocks.Â
Lehman's Jaleei Lino and Miguel Gallardo recorded 27 and 21 kills, respectively. Roberto Perez added a game-high 45 assists.
The Bloodhounds will face Brooklyn College on Tuesday, March 18, at 6pm at the Doghouse.Â
