Men's Soccer Drops Match to William Paterson in OT

The men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to William Paterson, 3-2 in OT, on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-5 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 2-3.

The guests scored the first goal one minute into the game and took an early 1-0 lead. John Jay responded nine minutes later when sophomore Thomas Malloy scored off a rebound to record his first collegiate goal. The Bloodhounds kept the pressure in the Pioneers zone that led to senior Yotam Bloom breaking through the left side and firing a pass to senior Korede Griffith, who tapped it in for a 2-1 lead.

Towards the end of the first half, William Paterson kept firing away at senior Vitecha Kochaon but the California native kept the ball out of the net. For the half, he recorded 10 saves. The visitors outshot the Bloodhounds by a margin of 14-4.

In the second half, John Jay played stingy defense and cleared all loose rebounds to prevent the Pioneers from tying it up. However, in the 83rd minute, William Paterson tied it at two apiece. Early on in overtime, the Pioneers kept pressuring the Bloodhounds but John Jay held its own.

In the 97th minute, William Paterson capitalized on a Bloodhound foul, to take the non-conference match by a score of 3-2.

Kochaon finished the day with 18 saves. Griffith led John Jay with three shots, two shots on goal, and a goal.

The Bloodhounds head to Rowan University on Saturday, September 13, for a match starting at 2:30pm.
