Men's Soccer Records First Win of 2014

The men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season against Mount Saint Vincent, 4-3, on Monday afternoon in Riverdale, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-7 overall while the Dolphins fall to 3-5.

The Bloodhounds opened the scoring five minutes into the first half when freshman Ricardo Llanos scored on a pass by junior Justin Osorio. Approximately, twenty minutes later, senior Graysen Carlson received a pass from Llanos and blasted a shot past the goalkeeper to give the Bloodhounds a 2-0 lead. Towards the end of the half, Mount Saint Vincent cut the lead to 2-1. Freshman Daniel Hoyte made six saves in the half. John Jay outshot the Dolphins 9-7.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, senior Korede Griffith increased the lead to two after tucking the ball inside the right post. Three minutes later, Carlson scored his second goal of the game from a pass by Llanos. With 26 minutes left in the match, John Jay led 4-1. However, the Dolphins cut the deficit to two, three minutes later. With just under three minutes from the final whistle, Mount Saint Vincent added another one to make it 4-3 in favor of John Jay. Fortunately for the Bloodhounds, that was the Dolphins' last goal.

Carlson finished with two goals, six shots, and three shots on goal. Llanos recorded one goal, two assists, and five shots. Hoyte picked up the victory making six saves. The Dolphins' Andrew Gomez had a goal and an assist.
