Graysen Carlson Nets Game-Winner for Men's Soccer

The men's soccer team overcame a 1-0 deficit after halftime to win, 2-1, against Hunter College on Wednesday at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Hawks drop to 0-8 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

During the first fifteen minutes of the half, the play was even with both teams getting scoring chances. The guests capitalized in the 17th minute when a Bloodhound defender tripped a Hawk inside the box. Brandon Fiscina was awarded a penalty kick and connected to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. John Jay controlled most of the play for the rest of the half but could not find the back of the net. For the first half, John Jay outshot Hunter 10-8. Senior Vitecha Kochaon made four saves.

Six minutes into the second half, the Bloodhounds were awarded a free kick right outside of the box. Sophomore Alexis Bustillo placed a perfect ball inside the box and freshman Oscar Barrientos headed it in for his first collegiate goal and point. The next thirty minutes consisted of the Bloodhounds pressuring the Hawks defense and firing shots.

In the 80th minute, junior Anthony Norena made a pass to senior Graysen Carlson, who dribbled it towards the net. The Sacramento, CA native placed a perfect kick right above the Hawks' goalkeeper to give John Jay a 2-1 lead. The Bloodhounds played stingy defense in the final minutes and would go on to record their first conference win of the season.

Carlson now has a goal in four consecutive games and five on the season. Junior Justin Osorio recorded three shots on goal. Kochaon made eight saves and picked up the win in net.

The Bloodhounds host Baruch College on Saturday, September 27, at 5:00pm at Aviator Field.
