The men's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 5-8 on the season. The Kangaroos drop to 4-9 on the year.
With sophomore
Daniel Hoyte out, junior
Sehad Mujovic got the start in net. SUNY Canton opened the scoring in the 15th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Throughout the half, Mujovic made some key saves to keep the Bloodhounds in the game. Just before halftime, sophomore Curtis Harbors dribbled the ball down the sideline and crossed it into the box. Senior
Justin Osorio found the ball and buried it into the back of the net to tie the game at one apiece.
The Kangaroos outshot John Jay 12-4 in the half. Mujovic recorded five saves.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Osorio dribbled the ball down the left side and made a perfect pass to junior
Alexis Bustillo. The Rockaway Park native tapped it pass the goalkeeper to give the Bloodhounds a 2-1 lead. Mujovic, along with John Jay's defense, continued to clear the ball and minimize the Kangaroos' chances. John Jay would hold on to the lead and take the non-conference match by a final score of 2-1.
The Bloodhounds host Brooklyn College on Wednesday, October 14, at 4:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 83.
