The men's soccer defeated York College, 4-1, on Saturday evening at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals drop to 0-9-1 on the year and 0-4 in the conference.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the fifth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bloodhounds responded right away as junior Abdul Malik Muftau scored to tie the game at one apiece. Sophomore
Curtis Harbers was credited with the assist.
In the 45th minute, senior
Graysen Carlson found the ball inside the box and buried it to give John Jay a 2-1 lead. Five minutes later, Carlson netted his second goal of the game and 14th of the season. The Bloodhounds outshot the Cardinals 14-4 in the half. Sophomore
Daniel Hoyte made one save.
In the second half, Harbers found the back of the net, for his first of the season, to increase the lead to 4-1. That was all John Jay needed as the Bloodhounds controlled the rest of play.
Carlson finished with six shots, three shots on goal, and two goals. Harbers recorded one goal and one assist. Hoyte registered two saves.
The Bloodhounds will face the College of Staten Island on Monday, October 5, for a conference match at 4:00 pm.
