The men's basketball team lost to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), 83-58, on Sunday afternoon in Kings Point, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 0-5 on the season. The Mariners improve to 3-1.Â

Jesse Higgins recorded 14 points, on 4-of-8 shooting. Freshman
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez picked up 14 points, 4-for-8 from behind the arc, with two rebounds, and one steal off the bench. Freshman
Essien Epps registered seven points and freshman
Jerome Petty had eight points, three rebounds, and two steals. Junior
Kiernan Hayes grabbed a team-high five rebounds and freshman
David Morris swiped a game-high three steals.Â
The first seven minutes of the first half went back-and-forth as the game was tied 12-12. Higgins then recorded four straight points to give John Jay a 16-12 lead. The Mariners then went on a 10-0 run to take a 22-16 advantage with 9:10 left in the half.Â
A three-pointer by Petty cut the deficit to three but USMMA went on a 16-4 run to increase its lead to 38-23. The Bloodhounds went into the half trailing 47-23.Â
USMMA scored the first 14 points of the second half. The hosts would go on to win the non-conference game by a score of 83-58.Â
John Jay went 18-for-50 (36.0%) from the field, 5-15 (33.3%) from behind the arc, and 17-for-32 (53.1%) from the free-throw line.Â
The Bloodhounds travel to New York University on Wednesday, December 2, for a non-conference game at 7:00 pm.Â
