Men's Basketball Loses to Staten Island Dolphins

The men's basketball team lost to the College of Staten Island, 81-65, during Homecoming on Thursday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC. The Dolphins improve to 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in the conference. 

Freshman Essien Epps recorded a team-high 21 points, four rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Freshman Jordan Aiken picked up 11 points, on 4-of-6 shooting, and junior Geno Ware finished with 11 points, six rebounds, a team-high one block, and one steal. Juniors Jesse Higgins and Kiernan Hayes combined for 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Senior Calvin Ingram and freshman David Morris grabbed five rebounds each. 

The Dolphins scored the first 11 points of the game until Ware made a jumper. With 10:28 left, Ware converted on two free-throws to cut the deficit to 14-6. Eighty second later, CSI increased its lead to 11. John Jay responded on a 13-4 run to trail 23-21 with 5:21 left in the half. 

Two minutes later, Higgins made a layup and Epps hit a jumper to put the Bloodhounds down by one. CSI ended the half on a 10-0 run to head into halftime leading 40-29. 

Five minutes into the second half, the visitors increased the lead to 16. John Jay stormed back on a 7-0 run to trail 49-40. With 8:28 left in the game, the Dolphins were up 65-49. The Bloodhounds were able to cut the deficit to single digits but CSI would go on to win by a final score, 81-65.

John Jay finished 25-for-70 (35.7%) from the field, 4-for-20 (20%) from behind the arc, and 11-for-20 (55%) from the charity stripe.  

The Bloodhounds travel to Centenary College (NJ) on Monday, December 14, for a non-conference game at 7:00 pm.
