For the last two months, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has been sponsoring a non-perishable canned food drive to donate during the holiday season.
This year, the committee collected over 200 cans of food and 31 non-perishable foods. On Monday, November 23rd, members of SAAC delivered the donations to the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on 59th Street. The members of the church were extremely surprised at the amount of food that was delivered.
"I am absolutely amazed by the hard work and dedication SAAC has shown this year and the canned food drive is proof that together we can give back in an astounding way," said Angelica DeAraujo, treasurer of SAAC and a member of the rifle team. "I believe that this is the start to an amazing year with SAAC."
In other SAAC news, the committee held a Pot Luck luncheon on Wednesday, November 18th, during community hour. Each member was required to bring in food, drinks, or dessert. The event was centered around getting the members to spend more time together and getting to know one another better. The Athletics staff and Athletics FAR, Dr. Gerard Bryant, was in attencance at the luncheon.
SAAC looks forward to continue giving back during the holiday season and into next year. There are plans for a winter clothing drive in the near future.
