The women's basketball team fell to Brooklyn College, 75-47, on Friday evening at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Sophomore
Victoria Royal recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior
Brianna Cunningham led John Jay in scoring with 11 points to go along with six rebounds. Junior
Cassandra Chery registered 10 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Junior
Shaliyah Ruiz dished out a team-high three assists and swiped a team-high two steals. Senior
Terri Chu added six points and three rebounds.
Cunningham opened the game with a layup but Brooklyn responded on a 9-2 run to lead 9-4. Cunningham cut the deficit to three with a jumper. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 11 after recorded eight straight points. With 1:47 left in the quarter, Cunningham hit a jumper, Ruiz made a layup, and junior
Cassandra Taylor made a free-throw to give Brooklyn a six-point lead. The hosts led 23-15 after the first quarter.
With 6:56 remaining in the second quarter, John Jay trailed 23-17. Brooklyn followed on a 9-2 run to increase the lead to 13. With 1:10 left, John Jay made it 32-22 but the Bulldogs ended the half registering the final five points to go into halftime with a 37-22 advantage.
Brooklyn broke open the game in the third after scoring the first 14 points of the quarter. John Jay trailed 58-35 heading into the fourth.
In the final quarter, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 36 with 3:49 on the clock. The Bloodhounds ended the game on a 10-2 run to fall by a final score of 75-47.
John Jay finished 16-for-61 (26.2%) from the field, 1-for-14 (7.1%) from behind the arc, and 14-for-24 (58.3%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to City College (CCNY) on Tuesday, December 8, for a conference game at 5:00 pm.
