The women's basketball team extended their win streak to four after defeating the College of New Rochelle, 71-44, on Thursday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 7-16 on the season while the Blue Angels drop to 10-8.
The first six minutes of the game consisted of seven lead changes. With the Bloodhounds up 10-9, junior
Brianna Cunningham hit a jumper to increase the lead to three. The visitor's followed that up with a 4-0 run to take a 13-12 lead.
With 11:26 left in the half and CNR leading 18-15, John Jay registered the next six points to take a 21-18 lead. The Blue Angels quickly tied it in their next possession. The Bloodhounds ended the half on a 13-5 run to take a 38-32 advantage heading into the half.
Three minutes into the second half, John Jay increased the lead to 10. With 12:20 left on the clock, the Bloodhounds broke open the game on a 21-0 run that spanned 11 minutes. The Bloodhounds would go on to win by a score of 71-44.
Sophomore
Josephine Diaz led all John Jay scorers with 19 points and four assists. Junior
Terri Chu recorded 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Cunningham finished with nine points, eight rebounds, and one block. Senior
Aneska Tejada added 13 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Freshman
Victoria Royal grabbed 10 rebounds and junior
Amber Villegas dished out a game-high seven assists to go along with six points and eight rebounds.
The Bloodhounds will close out the 2014-15 regular season on Saturday, when they travel to CCNY for a conference game at 12 pm.
