The women's basketball team ended the 2014-15 regular season on a five-game win streak after defeating City College (CCNY), 48-47, on Saturday afternoon at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Bloodhounds finish at 6-16 on the year and 6-10 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Beavers drop to 4-20 overall and 2-13 in CUNYAC.
Junior
Terri Chu opened up the game with a three-pointer to give John Jay an early lead. With 13:38 left in the first half, sophomore
Brianna Cunningham tied the game up at 5 apiece on a jumper. The Bloodhounds then went on a 4-0 run to lead 9-5.
City College responded on a 6-0 run to give them a two-point advantage. John Jay then registered the next seven points to lead, 16-11, with 5:43 left in the half. The Bloodhounds went into the half, up 20-17.
John Jay started the second half on a 7-0 run to increase the lead to 10. With 11:58 left to go, the Beavers trimmed the deficit down to five. Two minutes later, John Jay led, 39-30.
The Beavers cut the deficit to two after going on a 7-0 run. With 2:34, John Jay increased the lead back up to six, 46-40. CCNY made a late run, but couldn't connect on a free-throw to tie the game with three seconds left.
Freshman
Victoria Royal finished with eight points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Cunningham recorded 11 points, four rebounds, a game-high three blocks, and two steals. Chu registered a team-high 12 points. Diaz dished out a team-high two assists and swiped a team-high three steals. Senior
Aneska Tejada added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Bloodhounds are currently sixth in the conference and will likely face the #3 seed on Saturday, February 21. Stay tuned for more information.
