The softball team lost both of its games on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Bloodhounds fell to Grove City College, 6-1, and University of Mary Washington, 10-0. John Jay drops to 1-7 on the season.
In game one against Grove City, the Wolverines got off to an early 1-0 lead after two innings. They increased their lead to five after scoring four runs in the fourth. The Bloodhounds got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth to break the shutout. Sophomore
Jennifer Pace led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman
Lisa Pellegrino. Sophomore
Danielle Minaya singled to give John Jay first and third with one out. The Bloodhounds executed a perfect double steal to score Pace. Grove City tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to win, 6-1.
Senior
Sara McKenna threw a complete game, allowing six runs (four earned) and struck out three. Pace went 2-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base. Minaya finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
In game two against Mary Washington, the Eagles plated five in the top of the second. They scored five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go on to win by a score of 10-0. Freshmen
Nalena Cruzado and Pellegrino recorded hits for John Jay. McKenna threw her second complete game of the day.
The Bloodhounds will head home to take on Yeshiva University on Tuesday, March 17, for a doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. at Fordham University.
