The baseball team lost to New York University (NYU), 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-9 on the season. The Violets improve to 6-12 overall.
Freshman
Yordan Ortiz got the start for John Jay. NYU got on the scoreboard in the first and second innings on three unearned runs and led 3-0 after two full innings. The Violets increased their lead to five after scoring two in the bottom of the fifth.
In the next frame, sophomore
Zach Hyde doubled down the left field line with two outs. Senior
Nico Rivera then picked up an infield single to give John Jay first and third. Rivera was then caught in a rundown, which allowed Hyde to cross home plate.
In the top of the seventh with two outs, sophomore
Jason Gonzalez stole second and was driven in by an RBI double to left field by sophomore
Dylan Laudano. NYU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to win by a final score of 7-2.
Senior
Erik Pratz finished going 2-for-3. Rivera, Hyde, Laudano and sophomore
Brian Cabral all recorded hits. Ortiz threw 4.1 innings and allowed six runs (three earned). Senior
Michael Fabre came in relief and allowed one run in three innings. Sophomore
Kelvin Frias recorded the final two outs for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds travel to Kings Point, NY on Thursday, April 2, to face USMMA at 4:15 p.m.
