The baseball team fell to United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), 12-2, on Thursday afternoon in Kings Point, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 0-10 on the season. The Mariners improve to 9-7 on the year.
Freshman
Joe Gregory made his first collegiate start and threw six innings, allowing five earned runs and struck out one. Senior
David Schildwachter pitched in relief and threw the final two innings.
USMMA scored one run in the first, second, and fourth innings to lead 3-0 after three full innings. The hosts then added three runs each in the fifth and six innings.
John Jay broke the shutout in the top of the eighth when sophomore
Zach Hyde led off with a single and stole second. Senior
Nestor Amarante then delivered an RBI single to center field to score Hyde. In the top of the ninth, senior
Nico Rivera came through with a two-out RBI single to right field.
Hyde went 3-for-4 with two stolen base and two runs scored. Sophomores
Brian Cabral and
Jason Gonzalez picked up a double each.
The Bloodhounds are right back at it on Friday, April 3, when they host Baruch College at MCU Park at 12 p.m.
