The baseball team lost two games to Lehman College, 16-3 and 14-3, on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Lehman College. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-16 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. The Lightning improve to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in CUNYAC.
In game one, Lehman took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the top of the second, sophomore
Dylan Laudano led off with a single and sophomore
Jason Gonzalez doubled to left field to give John Jay second and third with no out. Sophomore
Zach Hyde then recorded a two-out two-run triple to right center to give John Jay a 2-1 lead.
The Lightning responded to tie the game at two apiece in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the third, Lehman scored four runs to take a 6-2 lead. The hosts broke open the game in the fifth inning by plating seven runs and would go on to win, 16-3.
Senior
Nico Rivera got the start and threw 2.2 innings. Freshmen
Yordan Ortiz and
Joe Gregory and senior
Michael Fabre pitched in relief.
Hyde went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored. Sophomore
R.J. Davila finished 2-for-4. Laudano and Gonzalez picked up a hit and run each.
In game two, the game was scoreless through two innings. In the bottom of the third, Lehman scored eight runs on seven hits. John Jay broke the shutout in the sixth inning by scoring a run and would score another two in the seventh. Lehman completed the conference sweep by taking the second game by a final score of 14-3.
Freshman
Christian Rodriguez pitched five innings and struck out seven. Senior
David Schildwachter came in to throw the final inning.
Davila went 2-for-4 with an RBI, one run, and stolen base. Rivera and Laudano recorded the other RBI's for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds will look for revenge when they host Lehman College on Sunday, April 12, at Lehman in a non-conference game.
