In the third game of a three-game series, the baseball team lost to Lehman College, 17-8, on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Lehman. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-17 on the season. The Lightning improve to 5-10.
With the game scoreless in the top of the second, Lehman scored nine runs to take an early lead. In the bottom half of the inning, senior
Nestor Amarante smacked his first homer of the season to put the Bloodhounds on the scoreboard.
The Lightning then added to their lead and after four-and-a-half innings, Lehman led 15-1. In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, senior
Nico Rivera blasted a three-run homer, his first of the season, to cut the deficit to 11. In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore
Jason Gonzalez registered an RBI single and later scored on a throwing error.
In the final inning, Rivera and sophomore
Brian Cabral recorded RBI's but John Jay would go on to lose by a score of 17-8.
Amarante and Cabral went 3-for-5 with an RBI each. Rivera finished 2-for-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored. Gonzalez and freshman
Jeremy Scheetz picked up two hits each. Sophomore
Zach Hyde swiped a base and scored a run. Senior
Erik Pratz was 2-for-4.
Sophomore
Michael Wang started the game and pitched 3.2 innings. Sophomore
Nick Gioia came in relief and threw 5.1 innings and allowed one earned run. Senior
David Schildwachter pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The Bloodhounds head to Penn State Abington on Wednesday, April 15, for a 4 p.m. game.
