The baseball team lost to Penn State Abington, 13-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Jenkintown, PA. The Bloodhounds drop to 0-18 on the year. The Nittany Lions improve to 10-13 overall.
The hosts scored runs in the first four innings and led 11-0. In the top of the fifth, senior
Erik Pratz led off with a walk and advanced to second. Sophomore
Zach Hyde then drove in Pratz to break the shutout for John Jay.
In the top of the seventh, junior
Esteban Soler walked and stole second with two outs. Hyde then smacked a RBI double to left center to give the Bloodhounds its second run of the game.
In the next frame, senior
Nico Rivera started the inning with a double to right center and then senior
Nestor Amarante walked. John Jay executed a double steal to give them second and third. Junior
Joe Jacobsen drove in Rivera with a RBI sacrifice fly.
Freshman
Joe Gregory got the start for the Bloodhounds and pitched 3.1 innings. Freshman
Yordan Ortiz came in relief and threw 3.2 innings and did not allow an earned run. Freshman
Christian Rodriguez came in to pitch a scoreless eighth inning.
Hyde went 2-for-5 with two RBI's. Rivera was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored. Sophomore
R.J. Davila, and sophomores
Dylan Laudano and
Jason Gonzalez registered hits.
The Bloodhounds host Mount Saint Vincent College on Friday, April 17, at 4:00 p.m. at Fordham University.
