The baseball team picked up their first win of the season on Friday afternoon against the College of Mount St. Vincent at Fordham University. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-18. The Dolphins drop to 7-20.
David Schildwachter made the start and pitched a complete game two-hitter. The senior allowed two hits, three walks, and struck out five.
Mount St. Vincent scored the first run of the game in the top of the fifth but the Bloodhounds responded to tie it in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, sophomore
Brian Cabral was hit by a pitch and senior
Nestor Amarante doubled to right field to give John Jay second and third. Sophomore
Jason Gonzalez then delivered an RBI single up the middle.
In the next frame, juniors
Nick Gioia and
Joe Jacobsen led off with back-to-back singles to give Bloodhounds first and third and no out. Junior
Esteban Soler blasted an RBI double to left center field to put John Jay in front 2-1.
Schildwacter pitched a perfect eighth and ninth innings to secure the victory.
Jacobsen was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk. Senior
Nico Rivera and sophomore
R.J. Davila swiped a base each. Rivera, Cabral, Amarante, Gonzalez, Gioia, Jacobsen, and Soler all recorded hits for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds will close out conference play on Saturday, April 18, when they host the College of Staten Island at their campus.
