The baseball team lost three games to the College of Staten Island over the weekend on the campus of CSI. The Bloodhounds dropped a doubleheader on Saturday, 11-3 and 19-9, and then fell on Sunday, 14-3. John Jay falls to 1-21 on the season and 0-8 in the conference. The Dolphins improve to 17-9 overall and 5-1 in CUNYAC.
In game one on Saturday, the Bloodhounds scored in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one apiece. In the next inning, Staten Island took a 2-1 lead. CSI scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the series opener.
Senior
Nico Rivera started and pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs, and struck out three. Freshman
Joe Gregory threw the final two innings and gave up one earned run. Sophomore
R.J. Davila went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI, and one run scored. Junior
Nick Gioia was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore
Brian Cabral finished with one hit, one RBI, and one run.
In the second game, the Dolphins jumped out to an early 8-1 lead after two innings. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to three runs in the third inning but a seven-run fourth inning put the game out of reach.
Cabral blasted a three-run homer to left center and finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI's. Sophomore
Zach Hyde went 3-for-4 with three RBI's, one run, and one stolen base. Gioia and Davila recorded the other two RBI's for John Jay. Freshman

On Sunday, John Jay jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. After two full innings, CSI led 4-2. The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to one in the top of the sixth but the Dolphins plated four and six runs in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively.
Hyde went 3-for-5 with a triple and run scored. Cabral picked up an RBI and scored a run. Sophomore
Michael Wang got the nod and pitched six innings. Gregory came in in relief and threw the final two innings.
The Bloodhounds host Stevens Tech on Wednesday, April 22, at 4 p.m. at Randall's Island.
