The baseball team lost two conference games to Baruch College on Friday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds fell by scores of 13-4 and 2-1. John Jay drops to 0-12 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Bearcats improve to 8-12 on the season and 3-1 in CUNYAC.
Baruch took an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, sophomore
Brian Cabral drove in sophomore
Zach Hyde with a two-out RBI double down the right field line. The Bearcats added to their lead in the third inning when they scored two runs to lead 5-1.
The visitors broke open the game in the top of the fifth when they plated four runs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cabral doubled to left center with one out. Senior
Nestor Amarante then smacked an RBI double to left field. Sophomore
Dylan Laudano then drove in Amarante on a single up the middle.
In the final frame, sophomore
Esteban Soler led off with a single and stole second. Junior
Adonis Castillo delivered a sacrifice fly but the Bloodhounds would fall by a final score of 13-4.
Cabral, Amarante, and Laudano finished 2-for-3 with an RBI each. Freshman
Brian Garcia swiped two bases and Soler registered a run score. On the mound, senior
Nico Rivera pitched four innings and struck out one. Senior
Michael Fabre and junior
Joe Jacobsen threw the final three innings.
In game two, John Jay gave the ball to
Christian Rodriguez. The freshman gave up two runs in the first inning but settled down to throw six scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Rivera led off with a triple to right center. Amarante drove in Rivera with an RBI fielder's choice to cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately, the Bloodhounds would get chances late in the game to tie the score but were unable to capitalize.
Rodriguez allowed six hits, two runs, three walks, and struck out five. Hyde, Rivera, Amarante, and freshman
Jeremy Scheetz recorded hits for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds face St. Joseph's College Bears on Saturday, April 4, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
