The softball team fell to SUNY Old Westbury, 1-0 and 7-2, on Thursday afternoon in Old Westbury, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 13-19 on the season. The Panthers improve to 8-24.

Game one consisted of a pitching duel as senior Sara McKenna threw six scoreless innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Old Westbury loaded the bases and scored on a sacrifice fly to take the first game.

McKenna went 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, one run, and walked three. Senior Jennifer Varela went 2-for-3. Senior Jessica Zaccari, junior Alinda Nicaj, and freshman Nalena Cruzado recorded the other hits for John Jay.

In game two, the Bloodhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Varela walked and senior Magnolia Perez registered a two-out RBI single. The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three runs to lead by two.

In the top of the fourth, Varela led off with a double to right field. Zaccari then singled to right field to score Varela to cut the deficit to 3-2. Once again, Old Westbury responded with one run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and one run in the sixth. The Panthers would go on to win, 7-2.

McKenna got the start in game two and pitched six innings and gave up four earned runs. Senior Jocelyn Ocasio and Zaccari picked up two hits each. Varela went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Bloodhounds will host #5 Lehman College in a CUNYAC play-in game on Wednesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. at Manhattanville College.
