The baseball team lost to Manhattanville College, 14-4 and 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Purchase, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 2-25 on the season. The Valiants improve to 22-15 overall.
In game one, sophomore
Zach Hyde led off with a hit by pitch, stole second, and was driven in by a two-out RBI single by sophomore
Brian Cabral. In the bottom of the second, Manhattanville took a 2-1 lead.
Heading into the sixth inning and the Valiants leading 4-1, the Bloodhounds scored two runs to cut the deficit to one run. Senior
Nico Rivera scored on a fielding error and junior
Joe Jacobsen picked up a two-out RBI single.
In the bottom half of the inning, Manhattanville broke open the game by plating 10 runs. In John Jay's last frame, Cabral delivered a two-out RBI double but the Bloodhounds fell, 14-4.
Rivera started on the mound and threw 5.2 innings and allowed five earned runs. Cabral finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored. Hyde went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases. Jacobsen picked up two hits and an RBI.
Game two was a pitching duel as senior
David Schildwachter threw six straight scoreless innings. In the bottom of the seventh and Schildwachter still on the mound, the Valiants scored the game-winning run on a pass ball with two outs.
Schildwachter went 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, one run (none earned) and walked none. Junior
Esteban Soler went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and Jacobsen was 2-for-2.
The Bloodhounds travel to Bard College on Tuesday, April 28, for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
