The baseball team fell to Bard College 19-12, on Tuesday afternoon in Annandale on the Hudson, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-26 on the season. The Raptors improve to 8-24 on the year.
Sophomore
Zach Hyde led off the game with a single for the Bloodhounds. Sophomore
Brian Cabral then doubled home Hyde and senior
Nico Rivera, who reached on a walk, giving the Bloodhounds an early 2-0 lead. Senior Nestor Aramante ripped a RBI single to center field to increase the lead to three. With two on and two outs in the inning, junior
Nick Gioia doubled down the right field line bringing sophomore
Dylan Laudano home from second. In the bottom half of the inning, the Raptors scored four of their own to tie it up at four after one full inning.
In the top of the second with runners on the corners and nobody out, the Bloodhounds successfully converted a double steal.
Zach Hyde stole second while
Esteban Soler stole home giving the Bloodhounds a 5-4 lead. After Hyde advanced to third on a wild pitch, Rivera singled to left to score Hyde and extend the lead to 6-4. In the bottom half of the inning, the Raptors responded with four more runs giving them an 8-6 lead after two full. They tacked on one run in the third and fifth innings giving them a 10-6 lead after five.
Junior
Joe Jacobsen led off the top of the sixth for the Bloodhounds with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gioia followed and singled to right field which brought in Jacobsen from second cutting the Raptor lead to three. With the bases loaded and one out, Amarante grounded into a fielder's choice and an error by the Raptors infield allowed Hyde and Gioia to score and cut into the three run deficit. The Raptors responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Raptors plated four more in the seventh giving them a 17-9 lead.
Rivera led off the top of the eighth for the Bloodhounds with a single. Later on in the inning, R.J Davila picked up a RBI single to left field to cut the lead to 17-10. With runners on first and second and two outs, Jacobsen doubled down the right field line scoring Cabral and Davila. Unfortunately, the Raptors would go on to win by a final score of 19-12.
Jacobsen and Gioia went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored each. Hyde and Soler combined for two hits, four runs, and four stolen bases. Rivera was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Bloodhounds travel to Patchogue, NY on Wednesday, April 29, to face St. Joseph's Long Island at 6 p.m.
