The men's soccer team couldn't complete a late comeback as the Bloodhounds fell to Mount Saint Vincent, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 0-1 on the season. The Dolphins picked up their first win of the season and improve to 1-1.
Early on, Mount Saint Vincent had scoring chances but sophomore goalkeeper
Daniel Hoyte made some key saves to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard. John Jay had limited opportunities as the Dolphins defenders consistently cleared the zone.
In the 27th minute, Mount Saint Vincent opened the scoring on a header in the box to make it 1-0. Two minutes later, the Dolphins' goalie punted the ball to the Bloodhounds side of the field and a Dolphin forward grabbed the ball and scored on a breakaway to increase the lead to two. At the half, the Bloodhounds trailed 2-0.
John Jay intensified the pressure in the second half and in the 61st minute, 2014 CUNYAC All-Star,
Graysen Carlson, blasted a shot outside the box into the corner of the net to cut the deficit to one.
Hoyte kept the Bloodhounds in the game with three saves in the second half. John Jay had a few last minute chances but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net to fall, 2-1.
Junior
Abdul Malik Muftau picked up an assist on Carlson's goal, his first as a Bloodhound. Hoyte finished with a career-high 11 saves.
The Bloodhounds will look for its first win when they travel to New Jersey City University on Friday, September 4, at 3:00 pm for a non-conference match.
